Description: The KEP Aotearoa Overdrive Pedal is a handmade overdrive pedal modeled after the modern-production Crowther Hotcake circuit, built in a durable 1590B enclosure (4.425″ L x 2.382″ W). The left toggle switches between standard and XLF (extra low frequency) mode; the right toggle switches between standard Hotcake and the Bluesberry variant. Lumberg jacks, Cusack potentiometers. Hand-soldered, true bypass relay switching.

The Crowther Hotcake Story:

Paul Crowther designed the original Hotcake in 1976 while touring as the drummer for Split Enz.[1] He built it by hand in New Zealand with no company, website, or advertising.[2] Straitjacket Fits guitarist Shayne Carter gave one to My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields during a 1990 tour.[3] Mark Knopfler and Noel Gallagher are also documented users.[4]

The Aotearoa uses the modern circuit.
