KEP Signature Black Overdrive – Clay Jones Style Overdrive

This pedal is based on a circuit designed by diy guitar pedal enthusiast Fred Briggs (La Revolution Deux). Mr. Briggs describes the circuit as a cross between the Clay Jones Overdrive and Legendary Jack Orman’s “Son of Screamer” circuit. The Son of Screamer circuit is a simplified Tube Screamer circuit that removes the input and output buffers, with other modifications. The Son of Screamer idea is used in Lovepedal’s Eternity Overdrives.

So what is this pedal? Since the Clay Jones Overdrive Pedal is based on the Tube Screamer, this pedal is the Clay Jones Overdrive Circuit with no input or output buffer.  In addition to to the removal of the buffers, I increased the size of the input capacitor for a fuller sound.  My version of the Clay Jones Overdrive is hardwired with Red LED soft clipping only.  There is no toggle switch to allow the user to choose between LED clipping or asymmetrical silicon diode clipping, as the original pedal.

This pedal was built with quality components including an OPA2134 opamp, professional 3pdt stomp switch, and quality Lumberg jacks. It is true bypass and was built in a 1590b (4.425″ L x 2.382″ W) sized enclosure.
