KEP Origin Overdrive Pedal – SD-1 Style Overdrive

The KEP Origin Overdrive pedal is based on the classic Boss SD-1, the first pedal I had ever modified.  For the KEP Origin Overdrive, I modified the SD-1 circuit by removing both the input and output buffers (see Jack Orman’s article), and used a 10k audio log potentiometer for the volume control for low impedance at the output.  I improved the SD-1 soft clipping circuit by using 1n4001 diodes in an asymmetrical configuration.  I also made other modifications to the circuit for increased clarity (an OPA2134 opamp), increased gain, and a balanced tone.

The KEP Origin Overdrive pedal is true bypass and was constructed using quality components including a professional 3PDT stomp switch and Lumberg In / Out / DC jacks.  This pedal was build in a 1590b (4.425″ L x 2.382″ W) sized enclosure.

The SD-1 (Super Overdrive) is a popular guitar pedal produced by Boss. Many guitar players enjoy using the SD-1 pedal because it can provide a warm and natural overdriven tone, which is especially well-suited for blues and rock music.

The pedal has a simple control layout, which allows for easy adjustments of the gain, tone, and level settings. This simplicity makes it easy for guitarists to quickly dial in the exact tone they want.

Guitar players like the SD-1 pedal because of its versatility. It can be used as a standalone overdrive pedal, or in combination with other pedals and effects to create a wide range of different sounds.
